About Western Railway
The Western Railway was given its present form on November 5, 1951, when the previous Bombay, Baroda and Central India Railway were merged with other princely states like Saurashtra Rajasthan and Jaipur. The Bb & CI railway itself itself started in the year 1855 when the 29-mile long line rail line was constructed from Ankleshwar to Uturu in the Gujarat state on the west coast. In 1864, this railway route was extended to Mumbai.
Western Railway serves all parts of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh besides the entire Gujarat state. There are currently six divisions of Western Railway – Mumbai, Vadodara, Ahmedabad, Ratlam, Rajkot and Bhavnagar.
